The Katy Train

After the Tigers won their 7th state championship, Union Pacific Railroad sent their train, The Katy, for a celebration photo session.

a town, a school, and tradition.

In 2012, after the Katy Tigers captured their seventh state championship, Union Pacific honored the program with a tribute unlike any other. They brought out The Katy – a striking red locomotive named for the historic Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, better known simply as “the Katy,” from which the city itself takes its name.

Players, coaches, and staff gathered in front of the train for a special photo session that quickly became one of the most iconic images in Tiger history. The moment linked past and present, tying the Tigers’ modern football dominance to the very railroad that helped build the community more than a century earlier.

More than just a celebration of another championship, the Train symbolized the deep connection between school, city, and tradition. It reminded everyone that football in Katy is about more than wins, it’s about heritage, pride, and a community that stands united behind its team. The image of the Tigers alongside The Katy Train endures as a powerful reminder of where the program has been and how far it can go.
