Gary Joseph

Gary Joseph graduated from Wharton High School after completing a successful high school career playing for his father Eddie Joseph, former Executive VP of the THSCA.

Coach Joseph began his coaching career at Luling High School 34 years ago under Lynn Etheredge, helping the Eagles win their first district championship in over twenty years. After leaving Luling, Coach Joseph went on to coach at Brazosport High School, before becoming the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Austin Westlake.

Leaving Westlake, Coach Joseph moved to Katy High School where he has served for 30 years – 22 years as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. While working in this capacity the Katy Tigers won three 5A state championships, and advanced to the state finals on three other occasions. As Head Coach at Katy High School, currently, his coaching record stands at 108-11.

Coach Joseph became Head Coach of the Tigers in 2004 and has helped lead the Tigers to a 107-11 record during his tenure. The Tigers have qualified for the state quarterfinals in 2004, 2006, 2010 the state finals in 2005, 2009, and winning the 2007 5A State Division II Championship going 16-0. In 2008 after going thru a rough start the Tigers finished 13-3 repeating as State 5A State Division II Champions, defeating Wylie 17-3 winning the Gordon Wood Award.

Coach Joseph has been named District 18/19 5A Coach of the Year seven times, Houston Touchdown Club Coach of the Year in 2005, Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Year in 2005, 2007, and 2008. Joseph was named by the TSWA as Coach of the Year for 2007. Coach Joseph was honored by the Katy Chamber of Commerce being named Katy’s Citizen of the Year for 2007.

Gary received the Regional Coach of the Year Award in 2008for the southwest region of the United States. Also, in 2010 was named one of Houston’s Top 100 Professionals.

Coach Joseph has served on the Board of Directors of the THSCA, the GHFCA, and on the coaching staff of five prestigious all-star games, including the 2009 THSCA Game where he served as the Head Coach for the South All-Stars. Coach has spoken at many clinics throughout the state and nation, talking about Katy Football and what it means to kids.

Gary and his wife of 34 years Sheila have two sons Jon, Jeff, defensive coordinator at Austin Westlake and their daughter Julie is an assistant athletic coordinator at Cardiff Junior High School in Katy. The Joseph’s are members of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, where he has served as a lector and EOM for over thirty years.
