Friday Night Lights
Opened in 2017, Mike Johnston Field at Legacy Stadium stands as one of the premier high school football venues in Texas. Located at 5175 Franz Road in the heart of Katy, the 12,000-seat stadium anchors the Academy Sports + Outdoors Student Activity Complex and serves as a home field for all nine Katy ISD varsity programs. From the Katy Tigers to the Jordan Warriors, this state-of-the-art facility showcases the best of what high school athletics can offer — excellence, pride, and a sense of unity that brings the entire community together on Friday nights.
Built with comfort and accessibility in mind, Legacy Stadium features a modern design and fan-friendly amenities throughout. The venue includes a large video scoreboard, a fully equipped press box with elevator access, and excellent wheelchair accommodations. The artificial turf field uses Helix® Technology Realfill, a surface engineered for durability and performance, ensuring that athletes can compete safely in any weather. With clear sightlines, comfortable seating, and first-rate facilities, Legacy Stadium has quickly become a centerpiece for both local and regional athletic events.

Beyond football, the stadium also hosts soccer matches and district-wide celebrations, making it a year-round destination for Katy ISD students, families, and fans. Its name honors legendary coach Mike Johnston, whose leadership and commitment helped shape the storied tradition of Katy football. Today, his legacy continues to inspire new generations of student-athletes who take the field under the bright lights each week.
More than just a sports venue, Legacy Stadium represents the spirit of Katy itself — proud, passionate, and built for the future. Whether you’re cheering for your hometown team, celebrating a championship, or simply soaking in the Friday night energy, Legacy Stadium reminds every visitor why high school sports matter so deeply in our community.
